Discover the Difference

Reading the same book and came across the story of Verle Ackerman. He revitalized the church and got it up and going again. I really liked what he used as a slogan--Discover the Difference. I am thinking about using that here at Vision.

Here are the things that he did to get the church back on top again. I think that they work for us.

1. Created esprit de corps among the people
2. Got the Sunday School functioning properly
3. Instituted a visitation program
4. Cleaned up the properties
5. Began an advertising campaign
6. Created a vision for the future--that is the old way of saying that he cast a vision.
7. He built a youth program

Here is what he said about training his workers. I like it and think that it is the way that we must do it

1. A potential or future teacher observes the class that is to be taught
2. Methods of teaching are taught in the teachers meeting
3. The future teacher catches the spirit of the Sunday School by being in the teachers and workers meetings
4. Actual in service training is used to prepare teachers

I thought that all of these are valuable for us.

It also causes me to think that I want to change the name of our teachers and workers meeting to a Volunteer meeting which includes all that do volunteer service at our church. Teachers, greeters, ushers, you name it.

I will be planting that idea and working on it to see how it turns out.
